When growing up, Penelope Darling was given a huge musical influence with her father's diverse music collection. With a plentiful menu of varying genres and sounds, Penelope quickly learned what she liked and what she didn't. Now as a performing musician herself, this early crash-course has helped Penelope Darling to create a unique and enjoyable sound all of her own. Her latest single, Love Myself, brings home the genius and the talent for listeners all over the world.
The music begins with a minor key. Piano tones with muffled edges dictate a melody that becomes a background to Penelope's strong voice. With absolute tone, she begins to tell the song's story. “You make me love myself” seems to be such a powerful line. Moving melodics penetrate the verse lines in between the words while Penelope's voice swings in the rhythm through emotional and personally open phrases. Cabaret elements allow me to picture the singer sitting cross-legged on a grand piano while looking into the eyes of the front row.
