Emiko Great North Road Despite being classically trained in music, Los Angeles voice Emiko gave up her traditional path at the age of twelve in favour of making pop. Now with a glittering career behind her that's growing all the time, we're treated to another one of her emphatic compositions. Having been featured in Billboard Magazine, Music Connection, and FM Sound, plus attaining several US number one slots for her previous singles, Alternative Fruit is immensely pleased to be asked to offer some words. The music begins with a steady drum-beat. Slow and powerful bass thumps down as pianos start to dance in key. The penetrating tempo pins a verse line which builds across a handful of bars. Guitars then rumble in like thunder as the chorus opens like a passionflower. Distorted notes combine with piano tones and synthesiser sway to provide a funky and upbeat home for emotionally moving lyrics. The way Emiko sings demonstrates how much she feels the words, her imploring imagery fathoms in thick clouds of poetic intention. A travelling song, Great North Road builds up with gradual flow and progresses along a path of many turns. Visit Emiko online and Twitter

Tom Auton
Blues Train The guitar wizard Tom Auton is back again to demonstrate his capable song-writing skills. Winner of Open Mic UK and Future Music Songwriting, this Welsh double belt champion has a big name for himself in such little time. Even guitar manufacturing giant Fender remarked on Tom Auton in a list of undiscovered talent. All he needs is a few good songs for people to remember him fondly by. We mentioned one already on Alternative Fruit, and now we are long due another one. With pleasure we can now report on a new single, one that keeps the momentum going and expands on this talented musician's count. The song begins with a powerful voice, Tom sings with a blues scale inflection as a guitar and brass section pound in with heavy drums. Tom-tom rolls and cymbal crashes thrust a blues and rock motif into the air. Grubby distortion crumbles the chords into a grainy chopping as clear vocals work their magic in catchy lines. Harmonising tones push the riffs into new dimensions as the progression rises and falls like a tidal estuary. Punchy riffs with thrashy notes bring a wall of sludgy rock into an ever growing wall of well manicured noise. Farewell Back in the 1990s, when many of us were still at school, Gilad was in a cover band. Cover bands who can really play are always popular because the audience knows the songs already. Getting the live experience of your favourite tracks makes a world of difference even if it's not the original musicians. It's almost like enjoying the song for the first time all over again. Since his time on the local gig circuit, Gilad has spread his wings and started composing his own material. This propelled him further in his home country of Israel, where he has received prime-time television appearances, radio exposure, and even a personal thank you from US President Barack Obama. Amazing! Pianos and acoustic guitar ring out in a peaceful and sombre melody. Gilad begins singing, a homely and iconic voice wavers across pin-point notes. The poetry of the lyrics is based on a 300 year old classic poem. Gilad loves to find songs that reincarnate traditional words for a modern audience. The feelings within the classic works are immortalised in their regeneration. The song sings about an ungrateful person, who never took the time to give back or show a symbol of gratitude. It's a lightening of burdens when it's time for them to leave. The Happiness and Lita Turner Bridges Of Love This combination of talent from Poland and Belgium provides fantastic songwriting with a voice people can relate to. The Happiness, or Przemek to his mates, is a Polish music producer who saw something special in the already popular Lita Turner. Her singing career has been elevated already in Lita's home country of Belgium and The Happiness knew he had the ticket to spread her voice even further. Now reaching six figure sums of people over the airwaves, this pairing are well on their way to the stars. Guitars, piano, and drums open the music with a thrust of sound. Trumpets add a colourful vibe that soars across the top. Lita Turner begins to sing, an electro sounding rhythmic tone holds a note while she dresses it with words. The guitars and drums begin again and her voice spirals out into the horizonfor a chorus. With a break for more trumpet, the energy of the track reaches further than before. The pattern starts again, the chorus and title of the track reminds me of “The I Love You Bridge” from Park Hill, Sheffield. A proposal of marriage on a bridge dozens of feet up in the air. I named a book of poetry after it. You can find out more about The Happiness and Lita Turner on Facebook and Twitter Graylinglake Runaway Since parting with True Lies, Graylinglake has recorded a great album and established himself as a key figure on the Swedish music scene. The Impossible Possible is set to propel this talented musician into the international circuit. The latest single, Runaway, is already receiving radio attention in several countries with the voice and sounds of Graylinglake becoming familiar to so many more. The music starts with loud and sunny guitar backed up with a lively drum-beat. Snare and cymbals elevate the chord strikes which evolve in their melody as the bars progress. Thrusty rock vocals holler over the song-structure in a powerful point of sound. A great beat with progressive kinesis in the composition provides us an exciting and care-free number. It's about running away, attaining freedom, and facing the world. You can follow Graylinglake on Facebook Hey, how about 97% Off thousands of online courses? Check them out! Gary & Linda Popcorn and Perrier Following on from the huge response that New York's Gary and Linda earned from their Christmas single, One More Round of Cheer, we are now treated to something that works every day of the year. This touring and singing sensational double act know how to get people talking and joining in with their performances. With superb songwriting skills and a charisma that slides off the stage, Gary and Linda show us why they are the favourite show in community halls and music venues up and down the land. Alternative Fruit is thrilled to be able to review this catchy second instalment. The track starts with a bouncy palm-muted acoustic guitar riff. A percussive melody strikes the bars and then clarinets and woodwind add a new dimension of sound. Gary sings the main voice and Linda backs him up. The song describes a care-free attitude and an non-alcoholic choice that just hits the spot. Perhaps if we need to drink to enjoy ourselves it says something about our life in general, or maybe our attitude towards it. Is this a song about abstinence? It sounds good regardless and as the fizzy bubbles pop on the rim of the glass, the crunch of sweet popcorn seems to say snap. You can get in touch with Gary & Linda on Facebook and Twitter |
