From The Gods That Adored You
New York punk rocker outfit Castle Black return one year later with a new single and EP release. Since their major impact with subsequent radio play and slots at all the cool festivals and gigs, it's time we heard something new. They don't disappoint, a brand new song with everything we already love about this band plus unfamiliar lines and chords is exactly what doctor rock had ordered. An 80's inspired mania of punky new-wave goodness fuels this Brooklyn based reincarnation of concentrated grunge, a fourth extended play stamps a long term brand onto every stage they play on. David Bowie's one time producer, Mark Plati, lends his fingers for a mix just to make sure we pay attention.
The track begins with a chuggy slow marching riff that builds gradually to the sound of neat drumming and in-tune yet discordant vocals. We're suddenly hit in the face by a storm burst of snare, and the guitars unleash their inner beast while the music changes gear. The energy remains although the sound shrinks to accommodate more verse lines, and we can almost feel the crackle in the air for what's about to come. Then we're treated to that same surge of pit-seeding thunderclap of sound however it lingers and rolls onward, forget the verse lines, let's just go crazy.
