Lullaby (I'll Be There)
Out: 16th January
Waterford musical prodigy Mark Duggan returns with one more sparkling composition. This time we turn the clock back to Bowie-esque mixing and a 1970s glam that presents in the delivery as well as in the central idea. With influences ranging from Joni Mitchel, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan (follow the links for rare signed goodies), this Waterford resident takes the old with the new for a truly distinguished sound.
The music begins with a chiming guitar progression that tinkles along with homely keyboards and a smooth drumbeat. Wavery effects shimmer like sunshine on tarmac as the verse bursts into being. Mark Duggan begins singing, the Bowie style delivery really hits home. We know it's not David but it sounds like him. A nostalgia works in harmony with novel intrigue which juxtapose in waltzing time. A passionate and dreamy sensation builds as the music progresses, as Mark Duggan cosies up with comforting vibes. This short yet memorable track is a songwriting house-burner and yet also reaches out to a specific crowd who, like me, enjoy folky and abstract music.
