When A Town Becomes a Canvas | Alternative Fruit

Chilean art collective, Boamistura, specialise in large scale exhibits and installations. By using brightly coloured paint and fantastic ideas, they have made a name for themselves in changing local scenery for the better, improving cultural relevance, and simply brightening the place up – a lot.


Their latest project involved an entire community. Their canvas? A small town called Antofagasta. With a bit of help from the residents, Boamistura have completely repainted the town. The entire place is now a wash with vibrant patterns, colour clashes, and eye catching displays of elan.


It's a novel way of using art, as usually it is the job of the councils to manage the painting of the town. However, by teaming up with the art collective, the citizens of Antofagasta have had the pleasure of the grand bonding experience involved in community-wide projects like this and of course the many benefits of a clean lick of paint.


The colour choices and patterns have been used to capture a brilliance and vigour which will set the tone for residents, who will live within the art in their daily lives. The inspirational schemes and theme which runs through the town has crafted a spirit of unity and local pride as now everyone in Antofagasta can say they live in an artwork.
