Eternal Tragedy
Crime Of The Soul From Forever Italian guitar legend Stefania Ponzilacqua has reached thousands of metal fans all over the world. Thanks to her band, Eternal Tragedy, she's played alongside heavy-weights such as Nervo Chaos and Ragnarok. This musical master has even been given a deal with Schecter Guitars. It's a brand I own myself and can vouch for their quality, heavy metal sound. Ponzilacqua has been working on a second album to back up the already insoluble Forever. With critical acclaim from many tents in the field of battle, and a lot more passion to squeeze from her beating heart, it's looking more than good for this virtuoso talent. Currently seeking band members who live in Athens and have a taste for extreme metal, Eternal Tragedy is doors open at this time. Crime Of The Soul is the first track of the full-on and technically brilliant album. It opens with a feral guitar riff and a torrent of clattering drums. A wave of sonic intensity builds and then crashes in a choppy and quickly moving selection of chords. Frantic trilling notes craft epic journeys across bashing drums then chord and bass combine to throw a powerful edge down onto the listener. Progressive riffs with dirty distortion grow behind a swirling storm of snare and metal-work that rings out in expertly notched pulsations of time. Metal vocals which growl and roar with aggressive energy tell the story of the song in terms we need the lyrics to understand. A patchwork of boiling hot guitars and thundering drums stitched together with needle work bass throws heavy metal at our face in portions that shift and churn with clever measures. Expect to be knocked off your feet, this massive sound made by only three members just aches to be turned up loud. The rest of the album takes melody and rhythm and mixes it with athletic ability to fulfil many a metal-head's sonic dream. Nana D begins to sing, his African accent instantly places us in a warm place. He sings with a loving emotion behind the words, the track opens the heart of a man for a woman to weigh up for herself. Another male vocalist opens the second verse. U.c.h.e.n.n.a. takes the stage for another round of heart-felt expression. Feelings of attachment and an understanding of change in the air mix to provide a mixed feeling of momentary peace. Now he's on our computer screens with his home-brewed sounds. Made in his home recording studio at the back of the garden, this family man spends time in his secret lair refusing to let being a loving father interrupt his creativity. Singing and songwriting his way into our hand held devices began at the tender age of three. His nursery age music lessons had not just given him a head-start, it set his brain on a path that couldn't be ignored. A hard earned following from the Camden gigging circuit now keep up to date with his biggest reach ever, all from the comfort of home. Quick and tight drums begin the track, before a repeating piano phrase sets a scene of childish magic. Tim Jackson starts singing, the title Little Girl is one of the first lines in the verse. He tells a young mind that she can be anything, and to grow into the right pair of shoes. His sugary voice drips across the simple melodies with delicate strands of emotive quality. The power behind the track is one of cherishing those we are responsible for. You can visit Tim Jackson online and follow Tim Jackson on Instagram Listen to Little Girl by Tim Jackson on Youtube
India Newland
If You Go From Fighter EP Eighteen years young and with five long years of performance experience behind her already, India Newland was made for the stage. Since playing at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, India Newland has worked on producing a fantastic EP. With a message that illuminates the issues around mental health trouble, the record is an exploration of the psyche and the human spirit in musical form. Synthesiser and blues guitar open the track on a smooth and relaxing beat. Tampered down drums and distortion warm up the composition, allowing India Newland to place her voice neatly over the top. A jazzy element in her melody brings out an emotional depth while pitch perfect placement of her notes ring true with subtle harmony. The song wants to remind us that we all feel down and sometimes we feel hopeless, yet we rely on each other to keep each other above water. A deep sense of attachment reveals that self-worth is often largely based on the presence of others in our lives. Find out more about India Newland on Facebook and Instagram
Michaela Anne
Desert Dove Yep Roc Records TBR: 27th September Being brought up in a military family, Michaela Anne has called many places home. With no one community that she can identify with, her roots span across many locations including Washington, Michigan, California, and Virginia. She also has an international connection with Italy. This diverse culture and nurture has undoubtedly helped to produce Michaela Anne's remarkable talent. She's so confident in her music that she went all out to put this latest record together. Taking a big risk was the only way to do justice for this fantastic selection of songs she'd written herself. It's been five long years since The New York Times picked up on Michaela's work, rocketing her into the spotlight. “Ease My Mind” was immediately accepted as a vital and honest contribution to the music scene. Since then, Michaela's music has progressed and matured into a multi-dimensional and beautifully designed artistic production. Solidifying the sound with an all-star cast of musicians including Mark Stepro and Daniel Bailey on drums, Brian Whelan on guitar and Kristin Weber on the fiddle, Michaela Anne has left nothing to chance with this proficient and stunningly manicured release. The album opens with a burst of orchestral warmth before a delicate guitar melody hits the drumbeat. A smooth fiddle melody spans out from the ceiling to make way for Michaela to sing. A country sound in her vocal delivery neatly fits with the entire instrumentation. Layers of music swirl and merge in soaring flights of composition. By Our Design progresses into a fantastic power-ballad style surge through emotional avenues of verse and chorus that seem to merge together with crunchy warm guitar. Next is One Heart. A wail of amplified feedback breaks open the silence as a dual string composition begins the piece. Bottle-necked notes slide along the minor scale while slow and steady chords chug at the atmosphere. Slow and meaningful words pour over, the song talks about reserving judgement for another's state of heart. Again, a rock n roll edge finds its way into the music giving extra energy to the beautiful lyrics. Next, a surge of pressure pushes forward with voice and rhythm. As the song builds past the premier bars, a feel good and upbeat tune brings out a sunny side to the homely feeling voice of Michaela Anne. A chorus saying that happiness is a choice, even if our house is burning, gives an air of powerful optimism that feels inspiring. I'm Not The Fire reminds us that although it's our life, it's also everyone else's and we have to do our best to encourage each other's better sides. It's followed by Child of the Wind. A chunky distortion muddies up the water bringing a sense of old timey feels to the mix. A heady guitar with the tone turned down gives a strong and far reaching platform for Michaela to bring us down to earth. Fiddle sings over the top in neat motifs while drums tap and clap in persistently lustrous grooves. Acoustic and bow bring on a new vibrancy to the song, sonically charged by the undercurrent of the electric rhythm guitar. Track five opens with a string melody, guitar and fiddle bush up against each other to make a beautiful shape. Michaela Anne begins, her steady and alluring voice draping across the framework like well tailored garments of sound. Poetic lines speak of feeling blue, feeling unwantable, and at a loss for the certainty of love. Tattered, Torn and Blue (and Crazy) forgives us for sometimes not being on top of the world. Mysterious atmosphere with wind-chimes spans out into the open space left behind. Desert Dove, the title track of the album, licks at the wounds of the previous track. A positive edge in the guitar chord melody drowns all the previous notions. It's a song about life and its many stories, the meanings we learn behind them, and the wisdom we take with us into the following chapters. The subject is a lady of the night and her many mixed feelings that pollute the divine soul within. Run Away With Me follows. A crash of drums and a neat electric guitar swings us from the whist and faces us in front of the fire. Now a more care-free and dream centred theme captures the imagination as we travel around with the song's pictures. Fantastically catchy chorus lines with stunning emotive backing harmonics sound like we know them already. Met with an artistic ghostly wail of voice in between the verses, another dimension and layer of coherence tops the track. The next song starts with a blues guitar lick. Summery sunshine inspired notes sway like light on gently moving water. Two lovers together share a moment of joyful appreciation for the madness of the night. Let's not give the wrong impression, eh? This is just a dress rehearsal for something else. Two Fools makes light of the fling that could or could not lead to something deeper. Does it matter? As long as there's trust and respect then surely not. Another folk edged number bursts through the brief pause. Glimmering notes spray against a steady country and western backdrop as the musicians meet in the middle. A blues guitar lick and a relaxed attitude give way to the song. If I Wanted Your Opinion makes it clear that this woman isn't here to be judged by just anyone. Seeing as Alternative Fruit has been asked for our opinion, we're more than happy to provide it. It's a brilliant number to put on when we just need to do what we know is best for us, no-one else. Somebody New starts with a dreamy chord which is overshot by guitars and drums. A soaring melody rises into the air, lifting Michaela Anne into the spotlight. Her voice has a light reverb on it, bringing out a fullness of sound that covers the whole composition in her passionate voice. Echoes of Fleetwood Mac decorate the style, a folk-rock adventure into unknown chapters is described with sensational depth. The album finishes with Be Easy. It slows down again with a single guitar and voice backed by sounds of the rolling ocean. As the lights fade and the show is almost over, the album gets more intimate and personal with this more minimal score. We get a real feel for the sound of Michaela Anne's delicious voice while the simple music structures the timing and key with that same emotional warmth and closeness delivered by the whole album. Desert Dove by Michaela Anne is a back to back selection of uniquely crafted and personally moving A side songs. Radio will love this I am sure, and so will all her fans old and new. Airport Impressions
Faith The Maltese melodic rock scene owes its recent major boost to these guys, Airport Impressions. Their break-through sound nods at several greats yet imitates none. Fans of Mumford and Sons, The Killers, and Kings of Leon may well find themselves hooked on their catchy compositions. With audience numbers reaching into the tens of thousands at their most recent shows, it's amazing that Airport Impressions haven't made it big elsewhere yet. Since Alternative Fruit has been made aware of this great act, it's a pleasure to send them on their way. The song begins at the beach. A great rhythmic melody pushes in, breaking off the waves with its own variety. Piano and drums merge in a river of sound while the vocals begin. As the guitar enters with a warm distortion, the gracefully strummed chords echo the atmosphere of the melody. Pressure builds and the song builds in intensity. The song is about feeling good about our direction, with positive attitudes and hard working effort, we will always get somewhere other than where we are now. It's a love song, it's a motivational song, it's a feel good number that makes us feel good about who we are in the present moment. Di Lovero
Just Say No Italian born Frenchman Di Lovero is making massive waves in the Euro Pop circuit. Paris has fallen in love with Di Lovero already, as their FM stations play his sounds all the time. Now it's our turn to get a load of this guy, let's see what all the fuss is about. A chunky chord synth plays bouncy string melody in an upbeat style. It's joined by frantic hats and snare which do their thing at the fastest dancing tempo we can think of. Di Lovero begins singing, making interesting sounds over the happy bounce. It's really fun straight away, and I can see this entertaining children at the disco. She has a passion for highlighting the need for artistic lessons as standard. Chiara didn't get to learn music at school, she had to teach it to herself. Once she'd gained the basics, she went on and joined Berklee Music College in Boston, America. If you've read our about section, you'll know that Alternative Fruit is your service for providing creative and educational input to a huge online audience. It's a pleasure to feature Chiara Oldano once again on Sound Read. Love on the Roof begins with a sample of what sounds like an old record. It fades away to make way for a piano note, bouncing on its own hammer. Chiara Oldano starts singing, her sultry and jazz influenced voice pulls at the insides. As the song builds with percussion and compositional flurry, the vocal melody curves and climbs over the bars. A catchy cabaret tempo makes the song easy to listen to, and great lyrics we can all understand sing about human feelings. Divas Nation
None Of Your Business We love it when Alternative Fruit visits New York. This time it's to catch the latest song by girl power singing sensation Divas Nation. With a work ethic of empowerment for women with a hard working prize seeking mentality, it doesn't look like anything can stop this trio. They've been featured on Showtime at the Apollo with Steve Harvey and been inundated with radio play requests the nation over. Their home town has already made its mind up, they love their ladies and it's just a matter of time before they hit the world with their sound. A throbbing electro riff starts the track. A deep and resonant male vocal chants a few words and the beat begins. Simple drums give an easy to move rhythm which becomes the framework for female voices to rap and sing in regulated doses. We get a taste of each of the girls' personalities as they take it in turns to tell us how much attitude they have. We like strong women, don't we? Respect is earned, after-all. The RnB rap sound builds up into solo efforts that push the poetry to intellectual levels.
