The Green Witch
A poem By Rowan Blair Colver Never you mind the fidgeting forest, With the wondering trees that dream of the sea, And the ravenous river which gargles with ghosts, Of the drowned and the frowned upon wisdom of old, Don’t worry yourself over the twisted vexing valley, Or the carnivorous crags which gnash and grab, At your trouser cuff snagged, On a shuddering shrub that quakes in its mud, As the cackle of laughter rides on the wind. No, need not fear the desperate dredging, On the canal of crushed backs, Or the sullen flag stone cracks that weep, With mosses and futile saplings, Do not weep for the terrible terraces, Nor for the forlorn fields, Of corn, for they cloak themselves in night time, When the shadow of the sorceress, Scorches like the sun, She cries her rhyming nonsense, And sings her mind out loud, Hastily brings all of the universe, To sleep without a sound, Such devastating drama, And impassioned impish glee, The witch called Mother Nature, Sacrifices time for me.
