AJ Hans On My Own Growing up in a home full of classical Indian music helped AJ Hans to develop a keen mind for performance and quality composition. After finding his wings with the sport of tennis, this young and multi-talented song-writer decided to not follow the professional athletic path laid out before him. Preferring to go to university, it was during his studies that a desire to become a performing musician began to fruit. This time though, he went for it, and with ample skills and a sporting attitude towards self-improvement, AJ Hans has made an awesome new song. So far, he's been in talks with Disney, ITV, and the BBC in conjunction with his abilities. Looks good, doesn't it? The 3 and a half minute track opens with a strummed steel string acoustic guitar. It begins with a date, three years ago at the time of release. A definitive flavour of Ed Sheeran makes the R'n'B delivery of rhythm and vocal something to listen to and enjoy. The melody in the guitar moves gracefully from one chord to another while AJ's voice springs from tone to tone with ease. It breaks down to a heart-felt and sombre one to one with the subject of the song, it's about ending love, needing space, and time to find our own direction. We can't always keep coming back when we're casually rejected. Listen to this brilliant song on Youtube. Enjoy this article? Get an easy to read culture fix with the rest of Alternative Fruit. Jasai
Kiss And Embrace From Fear Not Multi-instumentalist polymath composer Jasai reinvents himself once again to release yet more quality material. Not content with getting on the radio and playing gigs at several established venues, this eager song-writer wants to do it all over again. Perhaps something didn't feel quite right? Always good to listen to that feeling if it's there. Not to be confused with worry, which deals in the world of prophecy and fortune telling, sometimes we just know when something has to change. This new track opens with a muted chord melody that gently pulls open the covers. Jasai begins to sing and with a crisp and solid voice, tells his story of love. We're treated to the inner world of male emotion and desire while listening to the common muses we all run through in our mind. Elements of jazz, hip-hop, and rock n roll make this song an especially catchy number that almost resembles the more soulful material by the Fun Lovin' Criminals, one of my particular favourites. BackFoot Running Behind Time The once Queen Tribute band kept in time by Damien Dockery has turned the table and made an album of original material. Since finding companionship with Armenian singer-songwriter David Zalinian, this Budapest based rock outfit have evolved and strived to become a sound of their own. BackFoot released their brand new single Memory earlier this year, previously mentioned on Alternative Fruit, it's now time to take a look at some of the other tracks from the record. The album is out and the songs are diverse, with talent seeping from the stitching of each number. State of Mind for example opens with a heavy guitar riff with catchy drums that cause us to move about. The rhythm boils down to a ska sounding drive and lyrics spin tales that emotify the music. Deep and hearty vocals spread good feels over the alive and energetic music. Electric guitar and rock drumming combine to bring melody and blues to a culmination of push. Light touches mix with heavy jolts to give the sound a double edged quality. Keyboards lightly dapple with melodic phrasing leaving David's songsmithing to do what it does the best. I Know A Guy opens with a great drumming fill, it sounds like bongos. The frantic and up-beat groove spilling from the percussion gives way to fabulous keyboards and guitar strums which sprinkle the song with good vibrations. Classic drum-kit rolls in on top of the hand drums and the song brings up the revs into the next gear. Swaying melody with easy laid back stylings make the track smooth and enjoyable. Sultry guitars spin melodic patterns in pentatonic minor while no-doubt the band cosy up with the rhythm. A toned down and dreamy feel opens Double Kiss. Expert guitar and bass melody tread out the track progression and vocals and piano fill in the spaces. Feelingful and questioning lyrics wonder and contemplate the happenings of possibly the night before. Swagger in the swing, the music sits back in a comfy chair and lets the listener enjoy. The whole album takes an easy angle and a laid back groove then fills it with energetic and interesting music. There is a lot of skill behind each piece and the unique sound of David Zalinian makes it a truly memorable record. Kimbro
Wave Ill-It Records Produced by Chris Prythm Hard-hitting confident music doesn't come any more uplifting than this, synthesisers and beats give Kimbro the ultimate podium to strut his stuff as a powerful vocalist. His new track Wave pushes us even further into his corridor of grooves. Opening with a bell chime melody which bounces in a hip-hop orientated rhythm, rapped vocals and storylines flow like epic poetry. Progression in the composition allows the musical pressure to gradually build, simmering like gently cooking soup on a revolving vinyl fire. Stuttering beats with catchy hooks in every bar create rolling tunes which with the addition of subtle effects and samples build a dreamy and high-flying mix. The track is about working hard, doing the best we can, staying in high spirits, and being grateful for the good times that come and go. Catching that wave and surfing the currents of success, Kimbro shows us why he's the Don of his stage. Now fronting a new band Sharam Gill brings us Cox McQueen. Basing the sound on a parody of the Glam Rock scene in the 1960's and 70's, the whole album tells the story of how rock n' roll and the love of fame drove Cox further and further along a crazy adventure. Things are looking good for Cox McQueen, it's already been stated that the band could easily make it into international stardom. Smooth tones open the music with saxophone and slippery bass, giving us a feeling of the silky and the dreamlike. Pleasant vocals ripple over the notes in melodic curls and as the progression raises the gear, a rock and punchy feel of space-age fantasy and epicness brings the energy higher. The Flaming Lips come to mind as I hear this, however with the Wolverhampton home town, there is a distinctive English sound that points in the direction of Bowie. It's got a fabulous feel with a fun and entertaining framework, allowing the song to be sung and enjoyed. It can be sung along to quite easily and it's definitely telling me the album is going to be awesome. D'vyne Comfort
Emotions Rollin' Having made a name for herself in the popular reggae band Dojo, D'vyne Comfort has taken the solo path and recorded this new song. Perhaps while supporting the legendary Wailers or Groundation, she was given an extra dose of confidence and a few tips on how to make her own name? We will likely never know, however with her new track, it's made clear that she deserves to be where she is and to have a career that sits on the back of her natural talent. Already dubbed as a mould breaking artist for her soul and R&B genre, D'vyne Comfort shows us that music is about the listening and not necessarily the formula. The song begins with a piano melody, heart-felt and strong. The vocal line starts almost as soon as the music, and the liquid tones of DC spill over the beats like a sugary rich cream. Melody is worked through the keys and the voice in separate but relative compositions which help to give the song a feeling of wide open space. Clever and creative words allow us to really feel the artist, with quirky choral lines plus storytelling style verses, harmonies and poetry make this a really enjoyable listen. Something that loads of people will really love singing along to, no doubt. Listen to Emotions Rollin' by D'vyne Comfort on Soundcloud. Check out these smart deals on Microsoft PCs and more
Jimmy Hennessy
Coming Home From Busker Man Out Now Irish and British influences combine to encourage Jimmy Hennessy to make his music. A definitive folk sound mashed up with easy going ballads and vocal based music help him to propel his superb voice into the airwaves. Previously mentioned on Alternative Fruit, and loads of radio play already means that people all over the place are familiar with his distinguished tones. Taking the path of an artist, Jimmy Hennessy has turned down the high stress world of superstar music. Where the artist becomes the puppet and the puppeteer the investors, if all we want is adoration then maybe it's the way forward. Most of us realise that the illusion of the stage plus the illusion of the product leaves no room for a real person. Jimmy wants to do things the right way and make his name for being good at what he does. It's ironic that he chose to call his latest single from the new album by the name of the song that made him famous. The title is about all that remains the same, with a much more homely feel the new sound makes us feel comfortable with Jimmy as he sits beside us. It opens with a whistled melody that with an upbeat swagger still remains slightly blue. Life is often like this, there's hardly ever a moment where we haven't something else on our mind. Piano chords spell out a pretty melody which become guitar strings as the vocals begin to soar. Emotional and fire glow qualities shine from the highly accessible sound. Catchy rhythms keep the song in a sweet marching pace and lyrics about finally making our way to where we want to be give us all a reason to feel warm inside.
