Maisie Bourke
Cheap Since the age of eleven, this strong and confident London based female singer has been entertaining people with her powerful singing voice. She enters the music scene of 2019 with a number called Cheap. There are many types of cheap, some good, some not so good. Both have their selling points, punk and practicality can go hand in hand after-all. Luckily this song is not cheap at all, as it's been recorded at the premium Charthouse Studios in London. That's where Pixie Lott and Sam Smith (Follow the links for collectable signed memorabilia) went to make their groundbreaking sounds. Maisie Bourke is also no stranger to Alternative Fruit, having featured in the summer with her single Don't Let Him. It opens with a beautiful piano melody. Solemn chords delicately splash over well placed scales in runs and volleys which manage Maisie's delivery exquisitely. Sombre and heart-felt tones sing about the reality of finding that we've become something people want to imitate. Seeing cheaper versions of yourself can mean that we only have eyes for ourselves, or it can mean we've become a beacon for others to aspire to. It all depends on if we deserve to be luminary. With a voice like Maisie's, and an understanding of the social contract found in music like this, it's clear this young talent has played the right hand. Listen to Cheap by Maisie Bourke on YouTube. Tony As She Want Having made the top ten in Sierra Leone, this all singing all rapping London Urban artist has become well known on the local scene as well. Since quitting the day job as a school teacher, Tony As went on to making amazing music written by himself. Why not? When you've got a skill to entertain people with and spread a message. Tony As sings about parenthood and the responsibilities of adult life mixed in with street-wise commentaries and dramatisations. With a swagger in the beat, the music begins with a smooth and funky bass driven rhythm. Tony As begins with his vocal lines, accented poetry in spoken word sections breaks into melody over the inflections while a casual guitar strums easy going chord sections over the top of the drums. Tropical sensations with laid back intentions spell a story about a woman who wants him, and he's debating with his better self about the benefits of the situation. It's a fun and enjoyable song that reaches out to the consensus. Check the video She Want by Tony As on Youtube The single is available to buy on Amazon and Amazon UK. Already dubbed the best thing to come out of Belgium for a long time, now she's ready to bring out the stage show once again with this splendid new album. V For Victory has been nominated for several awards already, including Best Rock Female Singer, which must feel great to be in the running for. To help us get to know what Romy is all about, we're treated to a sample of the album in the form of Aiaio, a three minute romper through everything we need to know. It starts with a wave of oceanic cymbal which crumbles down to let a truly funky bassline shine out of the cracks in the pavement. Chilli Peppers style grooves with a thudding rhythm found among the likes of Green Day, (follow the links for eBay swag) mixed with sassy vocals from an energetic young head-turner can only mean good things. During the middle-eight, a synthesiser begins to churn out a juicy fill which smooths everything out into a dancing frenzy which lasts until another burst of chorus frames the delicious tempo. Carl' O Keep Sayin' I'm Crazy From Standing In The Corridor Funky popadelic Carl' O brings us a unique mix of influences from his musical base in Paris. Having already composed music which found its way into film and soundtrack under the name of Carlton RARA, this subtle re-invention allows him to bring us more of his quality albeit with a different coat on. By tackling intellectual subject matter such as human relationships and societal changes to the sound of accessible and easy going music, Carl' O delves deep into the grey matter under the steam of enjoyment and pleasure. The track begins with a hip-hop inspired beat with crackles and drums combining to make way for a smooth bass-line. Disco style vocals reminiscent of the Bee Gees that carry a staccato rhythmic melody drape themselves over the laid-back and gentle groove which digs down and settles nicely in the ears. Keyboards, bass, and drum all make a cosy combination that gives Carl' O a podium for his emotional and poetic style. yet another independent musician with ample quality that deserves to be heard. Christmas sorted. Freya Alley Black Hole Since the more than warm reception of Another Man earlier this autumn, Freya Alley has decided to raise another flag to join the splendid colours already flying. This time she's chosen to take a more experimental and artistic outlook on her music, asking some philosophical questions while exploring not only the truth but more of her trademark great composition skills. Who are we underneath it all? Once we stop pretending or listening to what others think about us, is there anything left? What is the nature of the self, and what does the self mean to another person? Either an analogy for an intimate relationship or a postulation of important life affirming questions, Black Hole makes use of the mind and the sound of good music to bring us more of what Freya Alley does best. The video shows us Freya performing her music with fabulous camera angles and lighting effects which truly iconise the artist. A catchy melody with a beat that takes you by the collar makes sure this track gets the attention it deserves. Shiraz
Simmer Down It wasn't that long ago when Alternative Fruit featured Shiraz with her song Done The Dirty. Since releasing the track, this young and talented British-Israeli clearly has a bright musical future. With a voice like that, what's stopping her? Now it's time to bring her back into the spotlight as she brings us Simmer Down. This new number works on that same hip-hop easy going sound which we have learned to associate with her voice. The cover art is awesome, the intricate yet simply iconic imagery tells us that we can expect a similar thread in the sound. It was chosen by means of a fan write-in on Twitter, which I took part in of course. The song opens with an easy-going rhythm composed with a plucked string melody and a non-invasive yet hook laden drumming. It's got pace, and there's energy in the bars however the mood is set on calm and the lyrics invite us to relax. Catchy chorus lines keep coming back to reassure us that we're hearing the song right, and this quality singer has got us covered. The song is not yet out, but keep an eye on her Spotify profile for up and coming titles. You can also listen to Shiraz on Soundcloud. You can follow Shiraz on Youtube and Twitter. Pupa Yotza & Dbey
Bats-Toi Senegalese lyricist and producer Dbey Traore returns to Alternative Fruit since featuring with his single Hakuna Matata. Dbey brings along his dancing troop to strut their stuff while Pupa manages to hold everything together from a seemingly different universe. Hard hitting beats with frantic rhythms in between them give an animated platform for dancing, rapping, and lots of good vibrations from one world to another. The New Realm
On The Run Thanks to lots of homely and intimate live acoustic shows on live streaming, The New Realm have become somewhat of a social-media phenomenon. Having released their previous single in April, previously mentioned on Alternative Fruit, The New Realm have gone on to make an album which features some of the best musicians on the scene. This new release marks the beginning of the next chapter for this pop rock band from London. The radio seems to love this band too, as their last song and this one take listeners by storm all over the world. It starts with a guitar and voice. A beautiful melody as if from a soundtrack to a film begins to cast its magical spell over the delicately plucked notes. The emotions rise and chords begin strumming to elevate the sound. Smooth acoustic notes drive the song forward while the words, silken and with pin point elocution, gradually build and grow into a rock n roll chorus which surges the song into its climax.
