Ouri Shape Of It TBR: 2nd December Ourielle Auvé moved to Montreal from France at the age of sixteen. It didn't take Ouri long to find herself in the right crowd as she began working on DJ sets among the city's lively rave scene. Her dreams of writing her own music never faded and with new abilities in electronic production, Ouri found new ways to write. Soon, her talents were spotted and Ouri was given entry to the Red Bull Music Academy's Montreal Bass Camp. From here she's already released two EPs and been featured on a highly sought-after compilation album. This new release defines another chapter as it begins, and showcases Ouri's harp and cello work alongside her beautiful voice. With a synaesthetic flow of tone, Ouri begins her song with a clear and intimate voice. Cello builds behind in strokes of passionate reverb that chatter with human tension. The voice builds with layers of harmony and poetic verse as harp notes begin to dance in rainy courtyards. Cello adds a rhythmic yet emotive allure as the harp sprinkles a playful notary. The cello then escapes into a wide open orchestration of harmony and scale in which we admire the sheer level of sonic delivery on offer. Mark Duggan
Promenade Firework Show Using an 80s dream and a drum-machine, alt-rock familiar face Mark Duggan has created a brilliant new number. With fantastic layering of jammed in rock n roll guitars and a retrotastic rhythm, Promenade Firework Show is about to be released on all channels. It begins with a snug vibration from a vinyl recording. Pastiche begins singing to the sound of euphoric synthesiser. Powerful and emotive words span several notes on courageous scales that seem so easy for her. A throbbing bass enters as the song builds into new layers. Harmonising tones and smashing breaks throw us into a realm of pure feeling as easy to remember words call out in moreish bars. Visit Pastiche on Facebook and Twitter
Shaw Davies & The Black Ties
Mamma Told Me Already well established and making headlines in his genre, roots and blues artist Shaw Davies is here with a brand new single. Working with the steady hands behind The Black Ties, Shaw Davies is able to express his music in new dimensions. Before the lockdown forced live musicians to stay at home, Shaw Davies was raising all the right energy with shows across the USA. It's important for Shaw Davies to keep the traditional blues rock format going strong, and by releasing original sounds in the genre, he is making his dream come true. It opens with a dirty blues guitar that dances in up-beat pentatonic minor compositions. A thrashy riff blurts out as drums keep perfect time. Notes and percussion hit the same spots as shredding meets fretboard athleticism. Husky and rough vocals sing in pacey and sectioned snippets of poetry and as the chorus revs up into another gear, harmony with guitar and rhythm unison bring a punchy delivery. Exquisite guitar sounds rage across steady and metered band-work that holds the frantic energy down to the ground. This fantastic new number, following on from the line somewhere between The Killers, Kings of Leon, and Mumford and Sons, (follow the links for eBay swag) once again puts their name on the headline. Airport Impressions return to Alternative Fruit as we review their latest single, Light Years. A sunny guitar begins with a wavery sensation before a thumping bass flows into the pace. Finger clicks and heavy drumming frames a melodic verse line filled with emotional character. An 80s style rhythm built from synthesisers adds an ethereal quality to the guitar and bass led rock-song. As the chorus rises, extra energy is pumped into the mix as snare and harmonising layers fill the space. A synth-wave and nostalgic effect gathers momentum as lyrics about love and emotion break like eggs over the snapping percussion. Nashville In Heaven pays homage to the all American country institution that carries the name of its birth home. When she was only three years old, young ARIA became fascinated with Britney Spears (eBay swag). The song, Hit Me Baby, One More Time was the foundation stone for ARIA's love of singing and performing. Now all grown up, she's continued her pop music direction every step of the way. Taking guitar and vocal lessons while at school in Ottawa and then moving to Toronto and into the industry, ARIA is known for her enchanting delivery. This Boy opens on a smooth chord from a synthesiser. Melody gusts in draughty phrases as a rhythm joins the incline.
